Why are you still hungry after eating mostly carbs?
When you eat a meal high in carbohydrates (like bread, pasta, or cereal), your body quickly converts these foods into glucose, causing your blood sugar to spike quickly. In response, your pancreas releases a large amount of insulin to regulate this glucose. This can lead to a rapid drop in blood sugar, called reactive hypoglycemia, which triggers feelings of hunger shortly afterward.
Additionally, simple carbs often lack fiber, protein, and healthy fats, which are essential for slowing digestion and promoting long-lasting satiety. Without these nutrients, your stomach empties faster, and your brain gets the signal that you need to eat again.
To avoid this persistent hunger, favor balanced meals with proteins, healthy fats and fiber in addition to carbohydrates.
