The consumption of red wine dates back thousands of years. Over time, this drink has marked history and still fascinates mankind. Resveratrol exerts its spectacular anti-estrogenic activity by preventing the most potent endogenous estrogens from binding to estrogen receptors. It is part of a family of molecules called SERMs (specific, estrogens, receptors, modulators). The agonist and antagonist activity of resveratrol on estrogen receptor alpha is significant, but its affinity for these receptors is much lower than estrogen itself. In other words, resveratrol can bind to receptors effectively enough to prevent the most potent and toxic metabolites from exerting their effects on estrogen. A decrease in estrogen expression leads many women to a significant reduction in water retention and cellulite.
Obesity : Recent research has also shown that resveratrol can help prevent fat accumulation and prevent the development of obesity. Resveratrol targets a protein called sirtuin which mimics the effect of calorie restriction on fat cells. German researchers have also published work showing that resveratrol can have a direct effect on body weight by interfering with fat accumulation in fat cells.
